Striving To Cover All Your Medical Needs

Functional lab testing and analysis is an important component in gaining a more comprehensive and holistic look into how your body is functioning. Testing on a functional level allows us to get more accurate understanding of the WHY to those nagging symptoms that you have not gotten to the bottom of. We call this- “test don’t guess.” Having the knowledge of why a particular disease state, imbalance, or even an annoyance is present might be the single most important factor in creating a targeted, individualized and effective strategy for helping you to achieve optimal wellness.

Functional lab testing is typically in the form of stool, urine, saliva or hair samples to provide information about a variety of systems including metabolic, nutritional, endocrine, gastrointestinal, hormonal, immune, genetic, detoxification, and others.

The functional kits are shipped and completed in the comfort of your own home. I can also utilize conventional to provide the most comprehensive assessment of your health. (If you happen to have had some results, send them over when you order your labs and I will include them in your evaluations.) Even when conventional blood testing is ordered or has been run, I often interpret the Blood tests results through the lens of a functional perspective. When blood draws are required, I can recommend a lab that will complete your draw for the small fee of $25.

The functional lab kits are completed in the comfort of your own home. Fill out the included form with your credit card and personal information and send it back to the lab. Once I receive the results, we will review in detail during our one on one meeting.

Let’s Understand

Understanding what factors contribute to a given condition allow for individualized and targeted recommendations, including education on how to prevent recurrence and exacerbations in the future.

There are many functional tests that may be beneficial. Some functional testing I routinely run include:

Hormone Level Assessment : Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones (DUTCH) | $250

Every one of my clients run this test due to the large amount of information and clues into other related health conditions. Testing over 25 hormone and neurotransmitter markers, it also gives a in-depth look into cortisol and it’s effect on all other hormones. This test is very helpful in patients with excessive fatigue, inflammatory conditions, hormone imbalance, weight issues, chronic illness, and chronic stress for both women and men.

Millions of women suffer from hormonal imbalances. Whether it is menopause, weight gain, fatigue, low libido, premenstrual symptoms (PMS), mood swings, or depression, these symptoms can lead to more serious problems if misdiagnosed. Identifying the root cause of chronic health issues is certainly correctable, but only if properly identified. The DUTCH test was created to provide insight into many of these concerns, working to deliver the most complete assessment of sex and adrenal hormones, along with their metabolites, in one easy to administer test. No blood to draw, spitting in tubes or filling up jugs of urine.

Over time, men experience a gradual loss of their hormones that are produced in the gonads and adrenal glands. Testosterone and DHEA levels fall and estrogen levels tend to rise. Male menopause, or what doctors call ‘andropause’ , can create symptoms of weight gain, lower sex drive, depression, hair loss, sleeping troubles, fatigue, and increased prostate cancer risk. Many men feel like this is part of getting older and do not think there is treatment to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle. The DUTCH test was created to provide insight into many of these concerns, working to deliver the most complete assessment of sex and adrenal hormones, along with their metabolites, in one easy to administer test.

Digestive and Gut Function Analysis- GI MAP | $379

This stool test provides extensive information related to digestive tract function and overall health. This is the lab test that I would hang my hat on EVERY SINGLE TIME!

The panel includes information about the following: markers for gluten sensitivity (anti-gliadin IgA), inflammation in the gut (lactoferrin), immunity in the gut (SIgA), pancreatic enzyme sufficiency (elastase), and occult blood. It also looks for the presence of pathogens (– including H Pylori and other bacteria, parasites, and viruses,) anti-biotic resistance markers, and normal bacterial growth.

From this information you will know whether, for example, you need to improve digestive function by supplementing digestive enzymes, have a dysbiosis situation needing treatment with antimicrobials and/or probiotics and if your immune system is functioning effectively to control pathogenic organisms in the intestines. I have found that ALL of my clients have gastro-intestinal complaints to some degree. I have also seen that once we correct this important system, A LOT of other health complaints begin to heal themselves!

Food Sensitivity Testing – MRT (Mediator Release Test) | $335

This foundational lab that I run along with the GI and DUTCH is important because our nutrition, even the healthy foods we consume, can have a significant impact on our immune system. If we clean up our diet and chemicals we ingest, we can improve our immune reaction, which in turn, can have a ripple effect on the rest of our health. The MRT LEAP 150 tests for hidden inflammatory responses to 200 different foods and food- chemicals. MARKERS INCLUDED ON THIS TEST: fruits, vegetables, grains, beans/nuts/legumes, seafood, meats & poultry, dairy, chemicals, flavor enhancers, and some miscellaneous items.

Heavy Metal, Mineral and Vitamin test- HTMA | $204

A mineral blueprint of ones biochemistry (a hair tissue mineral analysis,) can provide pertinent information about your metabolic rate, energy levels, sugar and carbohydrate tolerance, stage of stress, immune system and glandular activity, and how well your body is able to excrete toxic metals. The following are tested: Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, Iron, Copper, Manganese, Zinc, Chromium, Selenium, Phosphorus, Nickel, Cobalt, Molybdenum, Lithium, Boron, Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Arsenic, Aluminum.

This test is useful for: toxic Element Exposure, Alopecia, Bone Density, Cardiovascular Disease, Depression, Dermatitis or Poor Wound Healing, Detoxification Therapy, Fatigue, Gastrointestinal Symptoms, Hypertension, Immune Function, Impaired Glucose Tolerance, Inflammation, Infertility, Kidney Function, Nutritional Deficiencies.

Neurotransmitter Testing | $239

NEUROTRANSMITTERS are the brain chemicals that communicate information throughout our brain and body. The brain uses neurotransmitters to tell your heart to beat, your lungs to breathe, and your stomach to digest. They can also affect mood, sleep, concentration, weight, and can cause adverse symptoms when they are out of balance. As a matter of fact, it is estimated that 86% of Americans have suboptimal neurotransmitter levels. After sleep and GI issues, anxiety Stress, poor diet, neurotoxins, genetic predisposition, drugs (prescription and recreational), alcohol and caffeine usage can cause these levels to be out of optimal range.

Amino acid therapy is a term used to describe the use of supplemental amino acids to help balance brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) and other aspects of the physiology once the lab results are in. From these findings an individualized amino acid supplementation is devised to improve the quantity and ratios of neurotransmitters in the brain. Let’s talk about this one! After we run the GI test, and do some healing in the gut, we can move to the brain, and help you feel your fantastic self again.

Micronutrient Testing – Organic Acids testing (OATS) | $411

OATS provides insight into the body’s cellular metabolic processes. Organic acids are metabolic intermediates that are produced in pathways of central energy production, detoxification, neurotransmitter breakdown, or intestinal microbial activity. Marked accumulation of specific organic acids detected in urine often signals a metabolic inhibition or block. The metabolic block may be due to a nutrient deficiency, an inherited enzyme deficit, toxic build-up or drug effect. Several of the biomarkers are markers of intestinal bacterial or yeast overgrowth.

These tests allow nutritional assessment for a broad variety of clinical conditions, general wellness and the prevention of chronic diseases including arthritis, cancer, cardiovascular risk, diabetes, various immunological disorders and metabolic disorders.

Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis

Looking at conventional blood markers and assessing based on optimal levels. Too often people fall into “normal” ranges on their blood work performed by their doctors, and although they feel sick, they are told everything is normal.

By taking a deeper look, and combining regular blood work with additional functional markers, a more comprehensive assessment can be made regarding one’s health now and in the future.
