ONE THING 2016 is telling you to eat all the sugar you want today. REALLY? Yep! Eat all the sugar you want and watch the high acid outcome of fermentation create and excellent environment for parasites, candida, yeast, fungus, viruses, and bacteria throughout your body. Not only can sugar give you that lovely muffin top around your middle, but it can help your body be a great host for lots of little bugs! So, eat all the sugar you want.

We have all heard how bad sugar is for you, so I am not going to go into all of WHY. Today we are going to add ONE THING into your diet that will help balance your PH (click here to see what the big deal is) to give you WHAT to eat that helps with those sugar cravings and decreasing the platform in your body to host that acidic environment.

One of my mentors and favorites in the health community is David Wolfe. He has given us the top 10 foods to eat to help alkalize our bodies. Add one of them to your diet today. Then the next week, add another, and so on, until we walk ourselves into greater health.

We are taking a few weeks to help our own bodies fight disease by adding to our ONE THING 2016. If you have just joined us, take a few minutes and browse through our blogs from the beginning of the year (here, here, here and here) and see how easy it is to reach your health goals by adding….ONE THING at a time.

There are a couple THINGS that are at the top of my priority list on this health journey and this is one: ALKALIZING.

The cells in our bodies are constantly secreting acid as part of the metabolism process and our bodies in return, are constantly trying to neutralize those acids for the energy we need to be our healthiest. Our SAD (standard American diet,) of processed foods, poor soil quality, environmental toxins, and over worked/over stressed people… produce an acid environment by the end of the day . Because our bodies are fighting for that neutral state, it will take vitamins like calcium from bones and teeth.

I am sure either you or someone you know has had kidney stones, tooth decay, or osteoporosis. Make sense? Your body is trying to balance itself out by pulling from those areas eventually causing disease.

Over time if your body remains in the acidic state, our alkaline reserve is depleted, and will block the absorption of much needed vitamins and minerals.

I have some very simple solutions for you….let’s get your bodies PH level to between 6.8-7.2 by adding ONE of those THINGs today. Then next week another, and so on. Pretty soon your body will be craving these foods, absorbing vitamins and minerals, giving you the energy it needs for the WHOLE day, and cutting down on a lot of preventable diseases. Doesn’t that sound awesome?!?

Hello to all of our wonderful Living Tree followers. It has been a LONG time since the last blog post. What the heck? We have been adding one thing to our lives every week for the year of 2016. Well, I had way more than one thing added to my life these last couple of months that have been very unexpected. NOT positive things. So I had to stop most of what I was doing to take care of business and keep myself healthy. This has everything to do with what I am going to share with you today and what you can add to your lives as well.




Sometimes life happens. Not easy things in our lives. Times when our lives are out of our control and it feels like we are walking through mud every day. How do we keep our health going and what did, I do?

I took everything that I have learned over the last few years and did the BEST I could. GREAT, what does that mean? It means I put the things in order that I could do, the things I knew that were VERY important.


Here they are:


Sleep: Check out some of the details about sleep. When life gets REALLY tough, try to keep your sleep number one priority. Sleep is THE single most important thing you can do for your overall health, fat loss, recovery, and fighting the aging process when stress hits you right between your eyes. If you are having a difficult time sleeping during those times, please reach out to us, we CAN help. If anyone knows me, I NEVER compromise sleep.


Exercise: This can be a double edge sword for some. If you do TOO MUCH during stressful times, it can be counterproductive. However, take time to do SOMETHING. Even when I was at the peak of hard times, I would MAKE myself go for a walk. It can relieve some of the cortisol your body is cranking out during your fight and flight time. It can also do wonders for your mental state by clearing your mind of all the clutter swirling around. The bonus to this is that your get needed and usable vitamin D from the sunshine to help your body function optimally.



Water: First thing out of bed, I keep a glass of water. In it goes. A great way to clean out your liver and
get you eliminating. I also take in my morning elixir in place of coffee, it clears my body to get ready for all of the stress for the coming day.



Smoothie: Check out one of my favorite recipes! I did this EVERY SINGLE day. Again, it was in the morning. It gives me the boost, good start, and nutrition I might not get while I was running around, flying different places, and solving all the crap in my life.


Prayer/Thankful/positivity: This is another MUST for me. When my life was turned inside out and I would feel like I am losing it, I would start my day with PRAYER! Journaling, reading, and saying out loud the things I am thankful for until I was ready to get out of bed, changed my mindset.prayer-1269776__180
Do you see a pattern here? It is all in the MORNING! It is important to start your day on the right foot. Not much time? Each one of these things take no time at all (accept the sleep part.) When you are in that place in your life when you cannot handle one more thing, add these simple tricks to get you through that tough day, week, month, or even year. IT matters.

Welcome to week ? of ONE THING 2016.

Today is another simple add in to your life.


Who still gets seven to eight hours straight of sleep these days?


Info on sleep: To get the most out of our sleep, both quantity and quality are important. Teens need at least 8 hours—and on average 9¼ hours—a night of uninterrupted sleep to leave their bodies and minds rejuvenated for the next day. If sleep is cut short, the body doesn’t have time to complete all of the phases needed for muscle repair, memory consolidation and release of hormones regulating growth and appetite. Then we wake up less prepared to concentrate, make decisions, or engage fully in work and other activities.

Ever wonder what happens when we sleep?

This is fascinating and might help to know what your body is doing when you have fallen asleep for the night. Sleep follows a pattern of alternating REM (rapid eye movement) and NREM (non-rapid eye movement) sleep throughout a typical night in a cycle that repeats itself about every 90 minutes.


(75% of night): As we begin to fall asleep, we enter NREM sleep, which is composed of stages 1-4

Stage 1

* Between being awake and falling asleep

* Light sleep

Stage 2

* Onset of sleep

* Becoming disengaged from surroundings

* Breathing and heart rate are regular

* Body temperature drops (so sleeping in a cool room is helpful)

Stages 3 and 4

* Deepest and most restorative sleep

* Blood pressure drops

* Breathing becomes slower

* Muscles are relaxed

* Blood supply to muscles increases

* Tissue growth and repair occurs

* Energy is restored

* Hormones are released, such as: Growth hormone, essential for growth and development, including muscle development


(25% of night): First occurs about 90 minutes after falling asleep and recurs about every 90 minutes, getting longer later in the night

* Provides energy to brain and body

* Supports daytime performance

* Brain is active and dreams occur

* Eyes dart back and forth

* Body becomes immobile and relaxed, as muscles are turned off


Did you know that levels of the hormone cortisol (which is a crucial hormone that Living Tree helps people to regulate) dips at bed time and increase over the night to promote alertness in morning?

Sleep helps our bodies thrive by contributing to a healthy immune system, and can also balance our appetites by helping to regulate levels of the hormones (ghrelin and leptin), which play a role in our feelings of hunger and fullness. So when we’re sleep deprived, we may feel the need to eat more (which as we all know… can lead to weight gain).

Ever thought that sleep can help you LOSE weight?


The one-third of our lives that we spend sleeping, far from being “unproductive,” plays a direct role in how full, energetic and successful the other two-thirds of our lives can be.

So you are saying to yourself. Great! I need to sleep but I can’t! We totally get that. That’s why we are talking about adding in more sleep by giving you some tips to sleep BETTER.

There are many reasons WHY you are not sleeping and if you struggle to sleeping soundly, please contact us, we work at deep levels in your body to help you get the ZZZZZs you need.

Try some of these tips!

Add one at a time over the next two weeks and let us know how your sleep is going:

  • Sleepy Time Tea. About an hour before you go to bed, drink about a six ounces of tea and add…
  • Magnesium! Our favorite is a powder called CALM. Add untitledthis to your tea. Magnesium is a natural muscle relaxant. It accomplishes this by moving calcium out of the muscles, and back into the bloodstream where it can be mobilized elsewhere. When you use magnesium you will feel very relaxed, trust me. I use it every night.
  • Drink water ALL DAY LONG with Balance. This is an amazing mineral balance for the day that can help your body with balancing out your PH levels and helping the stress that you have caused your body throughout the day to keep from pulling other nutrients from muscles and bones. Check out our previous blog on water and the benefits of balance.
  • Lavendar oil like this one from doTerra. We are fans of essential oils which we will also be highlighting as an add in this year. It is important to pick an essential oil that is of utmost purity to receive the maximum benefits for your body. Message us and we can get you what you need. This can be put on at night on the bottoms of your feet, or even in a humidifier to run as you sleep.
  • Eat a small snack with the proper amount cashew-kernels-610481__180bananas-652497__180of protein and carbs to help keep your blood sugar balanced. Our favorite is a half of banana with a handful of cashews. This snack can help with the sleepy factor.
  • Back off of all electronics 45 minutes to one hour before bed time. Pull out an old fashioned book, or have some fun between the sheets (yes, I just said that!)
  • Take a warm Epsom salt bath with a few drops of your lavender oil.
  • Prayer and meditation. This one is my favorite. Take some time to pray and let go. Give over all your thoughts, worries, and cares to the ONE who created you. Take some time to release all that is kept in that ALWAYS ON brain of yours.

Every one of these tips are what we call symptomatic relief. They can help you temporarily to get some good solid sleep. Some of these can actually help change some of the chemistry in your brain to reprogram, however, if you are one that has chronic sleep issues, please contact us. We have worked with people who have had years of not sleeping. We take time to get to the root of their body dysfunctions and help restore balance, allowing the body to sleep soundly once again.

Coconut everything

Let’s see….we have added organizing, journaling, water, probiotics, fermented foods, and breakfast to our daily routines for #1Thing2016. One thing every week for the whole year.

Permanent change, here we come!

These are comments I have heard about last week’s blog:

“I had no idea I could eat something different than what the paleo craze tells me because. I found out grains worked great for me in the morning!”


“I made your smoothie every day for breakfast and now I am not hungry until lunch time and I had energy all day long.”

These things work! And the fun thing is that no one person fits the standard mold. Everyone’s blueprint is different and as we have begun to pay attention to our bodies, we are learning to give it what it needs.

Are you ready for this week? It will be short and sweet.


If you have been following us at Living Tree, you know we are crazy about COCONUT! To make your reading short and sweet (and the “add” in for this week even shorter and sweeter) we will direct you to the benefits of coconut here. We could go on forever about the benefits, but here are some things to look for when picking out COCONUT water and then COCONUT oil.

We are all suckers for the latest crazes and COCONUT is at the top of the list! You can pull up all kinds of information on COCONUT: pros, cons, do this, don’t do that… so let’s get to the bottom of some of the information and make it simple for you.

What we should look for when buying both COCONUT oil and water?


Coconut oil:

1- Virgin. This term is in regards to processing. The least amount of processing keeps integrity of the coconut closer to the original state.

2- Glass jars. Might not be a priority, but plastic is just not a good choice.

3- Organic. Free of harmful pesticides.

4- Cold pressed. This is the processing method. Cold pressed means the company is not using high heat and destroying some of the good properties that the original whole food offers.


My two favorite companies are Nutiva and Skinny & Company. Both of these companies are GREAT, but my favorite is Skinny & Company. They have an amazing product and their story is worth the read. Check them out.

Now for coconut water.

There are so many out there that claim health benefits, so if you are going to spend your money on them, let us show you how to pick the best ones on the market that actually produce what they claim.

“Young” coconuts have the most nutritious water in them. When they are picked and you drink straight from the coconut, you are getting the most nutrition possible. When coconuts are picked fully grown they are used for coconut oils, coconut milk and other coconut products. Why you ask? As the coconut matures, the waters seeps into the coconut and by the time they are picked the nutrients lies in the coconut meat itself. If you are going to spend your hard earned money (usually around $3.00/bottle) you might as well pick the ones that are the most nutritious.


Look for coconut waters that have these qualities:

1- Refrigerated. These are less likely to be overly processed to be put on a shelf. Anything that is put on a shelf has gone through high heat processing that allows it to last longer. NOT so good.

2- No sweeteners or added ANYTHING! When a mature coconut is picked the water inside actually tastes acidic. So the company usually puts a sweetener of sorts to make the water tastier after it has been heated high enough to take out the bacteria. There is another way that companies can keep the integrity of the coconut and kill the bacteria. It’s called HPP (high pressure processing.) When there is nothing added to the water, you can almost bet it is from a young coconut.

3- Organic. This one is our favorite of course. When you choose organic you are assured that cancer causing agents are not being used on the coconuts for shipping, growing and picking.


Here are some of our favorites and why:

1- Harmless Harvest. This the favorite at Living Tree. It is NOT CHEAP and use it as a treat from time to time, but worth it. The flavor is fantastic and they use the HPP process. The coconuts are shipped to the US frozen, so there is no chemicals added.

2- Suja. This is a local company here in San Diego. We love supporting local companies and these juices are also processed by HPP. This particular juice is only sold at Whole Foods.

3- Vital Juice. The cleanest of the three, you can order this one only online.


These are the tops but if you must choose others, just follow our guidelines. We are not out to make enemies, but if you have questions about which ones NOT to choose. Email us at: and we can give you a list of for sure..don’t do!


So here is what we are going to do to add these lovelies into our diet this week. Buy yourself some coconut oil and get some in somehow every single day. here are some suggested ways:

1- In your tea in the morning. And if you must have a cup of coffee, add some there as well.

2- On your skin. Use the oil as a lotion. You will be surprised how much your skin loves this. AND…you can use it on your face as well. try it!

3- Take a scoop at night and just eat it! Yep. I said it. You can do it. Your brain, digestive system, and your sleep cycle will like it. Start small and work your way up to a TBS. let it melt in your mouth and down the hatch it goes.

4- Oil pulling. We will be talking about that next week for our bedtime routine section.

5- Cook with it. This oil does well at high heat, so feel free to cook away.

Most people love coconut flavor, and how great to include it in your diet if you can navigate healthy choices when you use it? We love smoothies and will be talking about those in the weeks to come. Breakfast of champion’s

Good morning to all of our Living Tree followers. I have heard some great feedback so far with adding in ONE thing each week! I love hearing from all of you, in fact, the inspiration for this weeks #1Thing2016 comes from YOU (so keep the questions coming)! It’s a great question which is appearing repeatedly:

“Why am I starving by the afternoon and have that lul of the day that starts around 2:00-3:00pm? Some days I can hardy keep my eyes open!”

There are many reasons and solutions to that question, but today let us try and help you with ONE simple step to add to your routine for the week that can help AND address the other reasons in the next couple of blogs. We can’t have you falling asleep at your desk or in the car during the day, but we CAN help balance out your body to give you the energy you need ALL DAY LONG!


Who cares about breakfast? Haven’t we all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Guess what? It is! You get up, usually in a hurry, grab whatever you can, even if it isn’t healthy and head out the door. At this point, most of us have already forgotten to plan for what you are going to eat for lunch, non the less, what you are going to do for dinner.

I spent most of my life like this: getting up early to work out, hurrying to shower, getting my kids out the door or occupied, and then grabbing something very carby. Oh and I couldn’t forget my coffee addiction. That was a must have! I thought I was doing well. Fit. Energized for the day. Then an hour later, bam, I felt horrible. So I would start the scenario all over again, all day long. I was thinking in the back of my mind, eat like I was told, the traditional food pyramid: carbs, proteins, and fats. Why was I NOT feeling well and why could I not sustain my energy throughout the day? I started changing my mornings. I grabbed a healthy carb to eat for quick energy before my workouts, ate breakfast right afterwards (loaded with proteins), slowed down my eating and actually sat down to eat. I was amazed! My blood sugar throughout the day began to stabilize and my food choices were easier! Not to meantion my cravings went way down! And just like that! Voila….no sleepy time in the afternoon.

Let’s add breakfast in this week.

Not just any breakfast or the ways you have eaten it in the past. Let’s try to shake it up a bit. Give your body what it’s asking for.

You have been journaling right?

If not, check out this blog. You have become aware of how your body is reacting to certain foods or are beginning to, right? If not, go back a couple blogs and print off a copy and start right now! It’s never too late. Now it is time to pick a food for breakfast that suites your body.

I would recommend you try the breakfast experiment for the next two weeks to see what works best for you. Not all diets fit every individual. I eat pretty much all paleo, but that is not necessarily the best for everyone. Let’s see what works for you!

Here are some suggestions:

1-Try this breakfast experiment. It can be a bit daunting, but if you look at the handout, it will give you some ideas of what to do, what to look for, and what foods to try. Don’t worry about doing it completely if you are short on time (who isn’t?) But like journaling, begin to notice what happens an hour after you eat breakfast. How did you feel? Tired or energized? Bloated or flat tummy? Whichever works the best for you, stick with it for an extended period of time. Have two that work? Alternate those!

1-Get up earlier. Ugh! Really? This will force you to go to bed earlier. We will talk about that too a little later. Set your alarm just 15 min earlier than usual to get you set for the day. This will give you more room to get that bfast in.

1604610_10202116843255539_509461061_n2- If you work out first, pick a good carb for quick energy. Some drink coffee. I will not say don’t do that…YET! But how about a fruit that is in season? Oranges, grapefruits, the lemon elixir I mentioned in one of the earlier blogs, or a fresh made juice (here are some recipes for you)  These are all in season right now. Even a banana would be good. Endurance athletes (you are different of course) and if you want more suggestions, please connect with us and we can help you with some great choices.

3-My favorite bfast meal… a smoothie. I am a fan of low sugar, no fruit, smoothie in the morning. I have a delicious recipe that you can add your favorite protein powder to. (Here are some of our protein powder recommendations: Dr. Axe Collagen protein, MRM Veggie elite, Jay Robb Egg white protein, and Growing Naturals rice protein. There are many good ones out there. Contact us with specifics and we can help you navigate all the choices (we recommend organic, non whey, and of course non GMO.)

This is the called Treva’s Powerhouse Smoothie. I had a difficult time with staying full and having the energy I needed until lunch time. Until I did the breakfast experiment above, I found that this works the best! I have slight blood sugar issues and this was money in the bank for me!

smoothie-1208140__1804-Try to eat one hour after waking or right after your morning workout. Your body needs fuel and skipping this meal can cause chaos in your system later on in the day. Eating first thing drives your metabolism and helps with brain function.

5-Take time to eat. Not running out the door or standing at your kitchen island. Sitting down and actually chewing your food can help cut back on the stress of digestion and help digest your food easier. Chew that food! REALLY! Chew it 20 times. Digestion starts in your mouth, food was not meant to be swallowed whole.

This is IT for this week. Let’s all give it a try. I know I have slacked off the last few weeks in eating after I get up and I am paying for it later on in the day. Sooo… I will be doing this right along with you.

Fermented Foods

I had this thought today when I was getting ready to sit down and write, I love my job! I just hung up with a client that has made amazing strides in her health after years of having major digestive issues. She was not even able to go out to eat without feeling sick, bloated, crampy, and not well the entire next day. We ran some labs, she made some specific changes to her lifestyle and diet, took some supplements that coordinated and began a daily routine with fermented foods. She has worked hard! She says she feels like she has her life back again and that her stomach does not control the outcome of the day.

What about these fermented foods?

Fermented foods are filled with probiotics, and there is a growing awareness of the benefits of these “friendly” bacteria in maintaining optimal health.

What Are Fermented Foods?

Fermented foods are foods that have been prepared in a way so that the bacteria naturally found within them starts to ferment.

Fermentation, also known as lacto-fermentation, is a chemical process in which bacteria and other micro-organisms break down starches and sugars within the foods, possibly making them easier to digest, and resulting in a product that is filled with helpful organisms and enzymes. This process of fermentation is a natural preservative, which means that fermented foods can last a long time.

Health Benefits of Fermented Foods

Fermented foods are filled with enzymes and healthy bacteria and can:

  • Help to fight off disease-producing microorganisms

  • You are getting a variety of strains, thus improving the likelihood that you are giving your system what it needs.
  • Fermented foods are significantly more affordable than many probiotic formulations.

Fermented Foods for Digestive Symptoms

If you have have chronic digestive problems, including IBS, fermented foods may be a great dietary option: they enhance the digestive process and have a positive effect on the gut flora, thus reducing problematic digestive symptoms just like the probiotics mentioned last week . In addition, because of the sugars in the fermented vegetables or milk products, consuming these products may result in less gas and bloating, and reduce the risk of small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).

How Are Foods Fermented?

Many fermented foods are made by adding a starter culture of bacteria to a food. Thus, yogurt and kefir are made when a culture is added to milk, while kombucha is made when a culture is added to a sweetened tea.

Fermented vegetables are created by shredding or cutting the vegetable into small pieces, which are then packed into an airtight container with some salt water.

There are lots of ideas for fermented foods. The first one we hesitantly recommend because of the dairy piece. If you try them and you know you are sensitive to dairy, you might want to start with the others we recommend.

Cultured Dairy Products

Even if you are lactose intolerant, you may be able to enjoy cultured dairy products as the bacteria within the products have already broken down the offending lactose.

Fermented Beverages

Note: Some fermented beverages contain trace amounts of alcohol. Read labels carefully so that you know what you are drinking. The following drinks can be found in most grocery stores these days.

Fermented Vegetables

There are a couple ways to skin the cat. Did saying that age me? For all of you under 40, it means there are several ways to do things. If this is new for you, buying some is MUCH MUCH easier than taking the time to make them yourselves. Some of my favorites fermented veggies to buy are Sauerkraut and Kimchi.

Remember this if you are buying sauerkraut. It is NOT the mushy cooked stuff in a can or bag on the shelf. It is raw, refrigerated, and fermented. My very favorite (and there are several out there) is Bubbies Sauerkraut!


Kimchi is a fermented dish that is an important part of a traditional Korean diet. Kimchi consists of a mix of a variety of vegetables and spices. Cabbage is typically a main ingredient, as is some fish. Here are some recipes for making kimchi:

If you are really brave and want to make your own we have a fermented veggie recipe for you. As with the recipe above, these come from our seasonal detox programs, and are a sneak peak into our Spring Ahead Detox coming in April.

You can choose to make your own or purchase fermented foods from stores that specialize in natural foods. Make sure to purchase products that are raw and unpasteurized, as the pasteurization process kills the very bacteria that you are seeking!

Typically, fermented foods are consumed with meals as a condiment. When adding fermented foods to your diet, start slowly to allow your body time to adjust. No need to rush – fermented foods can be stored in your refrigerator for six to eight months. Try a little spoonful every day and work your way up. I eat them every single day (usually best when consumed with lunch). You can eat them with salads, proteins, soups, sandwiches, and even as a side. I even have them with a handful of organic blue corn chips and some hummus as a snack. Its really yummy!

Welcome back to week four of Living Tree #1THING2016. If you have just joined us, it is perfect timing! You can start here and at the end of the 52 weeks, you can circle back around and pick up the things we started with. Or you can just jump back three weeks and do those three things along with the one we are doing this week.

The next couple weeks of blogging are very important to my own health. With the removal of my gallbladder, my health began to fall apart. If I would have known that one of the important things that I needed in my daily routine would have been probiotics and digestive enzymes with very specific ingredients, I would have saved myself a few years of misery. If you are struggling with digestive issues like gas, bloating, indigestion, IBS, unexplained intestinal pain, and the ever present tire around your waist, let us help you with ONE of our suggestions.

Today we are talking about Probiotics. I am assuming that most of you have heard about probiotics. They are all over the television and internet. Even with all the information out there, we seem to get the same recurring questions. What exactly do they do and what kinds do you recommend that really work?


Let us help you sort some of this out.

What are probiotics?

Simply stated: Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are called “the good” microorganisms because they help benefit the digestive tract.

The bacteria of your digestive track is in a constant state of flux due to a variety of factors such as diet, stress, medication, and more. It seems that we are just beginning to learn about the many benefits and particulars that are important in choosing the right probiotic.

These little guys have incredible abilities, besides improving your digestive system, they can impact your immune system, influence the foods you eat, improve blood sugar, and affect leptin sensitivity, a hormone that regulates your appetite and metabolic rate.

Did you know that there is not a one size fits all when picking out your probiotic? It’s dependent upon your own health situation and what you are trying to correct. It’s important to make sure that the probiotic is actually going to do its job no matter what your health situation. Let us help you figure this out today! We want to make this easy on you as you add to your #1THING2016.

There are a few key factors when picking out a probiotic:

  • Colony Forming Units: Pick a probiotic with at least fifty billion CFUs of the two most important groups of probiotic bacteria: Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria.
  • Multi-Strain: Most robust probiotics contain at least seven different strains.
  • Delivery System: Choose a probiotic with an effective delivery system. Because bacteria are easily destroyed by stomach acid, it’s important to ensure your probiotic is delivering live bacteria once it’s ingested and released in the gut. Some delivery systems to look for include: capsules (including enteric coated capsules and microcapsules), a formula that contains prebiotics (such as FOS), and an optimal combination of prebiotics and probiotics (specifically Lactobacillus spp., which have a greater resistance to stomach acid) that have been studied together and proven to enhance delivery.
  • Shelf Life & Refrigeration: Check to see what the shelf life is, whether the product needs to be refrigerated, and whether it’s stable under normal storage conditions. Checking to see if there is an expiration date is important. Some probiotic companies are serving you dead bacteria because it has sat in heat, moisture, or on the shelf for too long and you are simply wasting your money and time.


Let’s pick out a few we know have been proven to work.

I know there are several out there that work very effectively, but here at Living Tree we have three that we recommend depending upon your health situation.

1-Megasporebiotic. This particular brand I would recommend for those of you who have general complaints. These little guys are fantastic and what I personally take currently now that my health has improved. These probiotics are in spore form, helping to withstand the high acid content in the stomach, allowing the probiotic to reach the intestines. They provide a strain that naturally produces high levels of antioxidants (lycopene, astaxanthin, beta carotene, and lutein.) 2-Blue Biotic. This is another great general health probiotic. Lots of research has been given to show the effectiveness of the delivery of live probiotics to the gut with this one. It has 30 billion CFUs and over 10 different strains. You can order these HERE!

3-VSL. This is a high powered probiotic that is for those of you who have struggled with digestive issues such as: IBS, Crohn’s disease, gallbladder removal, etc… I would recommend taking this for one or two months and contact me with different ideas following and for dosage. You can order these anywhere online.

All three of these may be slightly pricey, but they are worth it! It is better to spend your money knowing you are getting quality than wasting your money trying this and that, not knowing if they are going to work.

Follow the instructions on the bottles and I would recommend taking them consistently to see any differences in your health. If you have taken any antibiotics or are currently, these are a MUST!!

Get it All Down On Paper

Did you recover from your Valentine’s hang over? Eating all of that chocolate? How about if we add something this week for our ONE THING 2016 that will help with all of that over indulgence?

It is VERY VERY simple…..



Let’s get in touch with our bodies. That’s right! Most of us are not tuned into what happens when we eat things that make us feel GROSS! Here is your journal page. Download this page, make a few copies, and get started.

This is one of the first things at Living Tree that we help clients with and here’s why. Our bodies react to every single thing that we put into our mouths both good and bad. When we continue to give our bodies what it reacts unfavorably to, eventually it will have a cascading effect and create havoc on our different systems, especially our digestive system.

Do you ever feel bloated, gassy, and sick to your stomach, suffer from constipation, or diarrhea? That might seem obvious to most people and you avoid those foods. But what about when you feel tired after you eat, or irritated for no reason, or you can’t sit still? Ever felt your heart pounding harder than normal? What about the times you feel great after you eat? Ever pay attention to what that was that made you feel so GREAT? All of these things can be from some of the foods you are eating.

Can you commit to journaling and therefore becoming aware of what you are eating is doing to your body?

Let’s do this:


  • Set your journal in the kitchen. That is where MOST people prepare their food and eat. Ha ha.
  • Every morning when you get up drink your morning elixir or your glass of water like we talked about last week, go to your journal and write how you feel getting up, pre meal. Write down anything you are feeling, good or bad. I have left instructions on the journal sheet.
  • For now, don’t change anything you are already doing accept the water. I am assuming that most of you have been “trying” to eat better for the New Year, so just keep doing what you are doing. Let’s track how well these foods are making you feel.
  • Watch how this works. If you do this consistently, you will see patterns (that you are now tracking) develop over the next two weeks. This is the start of your journey towards health. Trust us, we have helped hundreds of people figure their bodies out.

Welcome back to our #1Thing2016. If you missed out on what we are going to do this year, check out our blog post from last week HERE. Drummmmm roll please……WATER!

We will be talking all things water this week. Easy peasy. Here we go…

I can give you all the reasons why you should drink water, but unless you live under a rock (my mom always used to say) I think by now you probably know the health benefits. Right? So let’s do something different…

I’m going to tell you HOW to drink your water:

  • Start off your day, the very first part of your day with WARM water. Here is my Morning Elixir that I recommend and the reasons why it is more than beneficial for your body.
  • Most of us know that they say to drink half your body weight in ounces of water everyday. But I have a caviot. Try drinking half of your body weight in ounces, BUT based on the weight you were when you felt your BEST! Let me give you an example. You currently weigh 160 lbs and you are NOT feeling your best. Then you shouldn’t be drinking 80 oz of water. Think back to the weight you felt your best. Maybe that was when you weighed 140 lbs. You should be drinking 70 oz of water each day. Know why? Even though you are just drinking water, your body still has to absorb it. All that waters got to go somewhere. More than likely when you were feeling your best, your body was more efficiently and beneficially using that water. At this weight and not feeling your best, your body could be struggling to take in half of your current weight in ounces. Try it!
  • Drink most of your liquids 2 hrs before bedtime. As we age, you may have noticed our bodies want to get up in the middle of the night to get rid of all that liquid. Also, if we are not our healthiest our bodies might not be as efficient at elimination during the day and when you relax into your sleep, it finally works because your body is recalibrating itself at night and no one wants to be waking up to go to the bathroom all night!water-bottle-962934_1280
  • Take a water bottle with you wherever you go. You are more likely to drink it if it is with you all the time. AND if you get a cool colorful water bottle, it will catch your “I’m always in a hurry” eye.
  • Here is a great way to get in 39 micro nutrients in ONE little packet. You place one of these in your water bottle for two days. Keep refilling your bottle with these little guys and they will help your body fight inflammation and keep it in alkaline. What is the big deal about that?     3. improves vision
    4. improves mood
    5. relieves stress
    6. boosts communication.
